City-Wide Garage Sale:

 On the third Saturday of July, Morenci’s streets become jammed with shoppers looking for bargains at the enormous city-wide garage sale. About 100 residents sign up each year for this greatly-anticipated event.

The sale is advertised in a dozen newspapers in the region and shoppers flock from all over. Maps listing a few highlights from each sale are available from downtown merchants.

     Labor Day Bridge Walk:

 One year walkers carried zucchinis. Another year some dressed as favorite storybook characters. Every year it’s a lot of fun when area residents gather at the Silver Creek Bridge to walk across on Labor Day.

It’s Morenci’s short answer to the famous five-mile bridge walk across the Straits of Mackinac. Here at the bottom of the state, the walk only takes a few seconds.

Guest speakers have no more than 60 seconds to say their piece and each year’s walk raises cash for a local organization or project.

         Golf Outing:

Each year the Chamber organizes a four-person scramble at De-Mor Hills Golf Course. The event serves as a fund-raiser for the Chamber and also serves as a great day for participants.

Each of the 24 teams plays 18 holes of golf before enjoying a steak dinner. Cash prizes are given in several categories and big hole-in-one prizes are offered on several holes.

         Holiday Parade:

 The local festival committee organizes a lighted holiday parade in early December, and afterward participants gather at Wakefield Park to warm up with hot chocolate and coffee, and fill up on a huge variety of cookies.

    In addition to the refreshments, the Chamber gives away Morenci Money, a special currency that can be used at Chamber member stores. Other entertainment is also provided
